COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

Imagine meeting your biggest fan!!!
One you've watched on Youtube giving a lecture at Harvard or doing the most impressive master classes and reading through all his books. Wouldn't it be fascinating to meet a guy with that much prestige who inspires, ignites passion, focuses your ambition and feeds your dreams. Well that dream came true on Sunday 21st August at 6pm. And then imagine sitting in his newest restaurant, 108 beside him eating his creations. A two Michelin Starred Chef with an imagination that bewilders all, with flavours of Spruce, Birch Sap, Angelica and Elderflower. And then finally imagine getting a chance to have a chat and a photo with him. (Visualize my state of shock and nervousness now!!) That was definitely the highlight of my long weekend in Copenhagen, one I can't promise to everyone else who goes. Would I go back? For sure but next time I'll go back as a Stagier and pick up the most invaluable experience.
I couldn't have asked for a better celebration for my 21st Birthday. And to top it off it was all a surprise organised by my parents.
My first experience of Danish Cuisine included Pickled Herring Smokkerbrod to traditional Danish pastries like Tosca Cake, Cinnamon rolls, Rye Bread and Beer. Most of the trip was spent travelling around the city on hire bikes (Copenhagen has more bikes than people) and these bikes have interactive maps on them and an electric motor too. We travelled to Tivoli Gardens, toured to Carlsberg and wandered around the autonomous community of Christiania all in only five days.
If you are considering going away for a long weekend, don't think twice about going elsewhere. Copenhagen is where it's all happening. Plenty of museums, restaurants, food markets and breweries to explore and the people are the kindest and most pleasant I've ever met. The Danes are easy to approach and they speak excellent English as well.
If you're a foodie like me, you'll probably want to visit Copenhagen when the cooking festivals are on in the middle of August. For more details go to www.copenhagencooking.com
